Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about energy grants in Wales.

Am I eligible for a free energy grant in Wales?
Eligibility depends on your income, benefits status and property type. Homeowners and private tenants receiving qualifying benefits (such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit or Child Tax Credit) are most likely to qualify. Enter your postcode above to check in 60 seconds.
What is the Nest scheme?
Nest is a Welsh Government programme that provides free energy efficiency improvements to eligible homeowners. It can cover new boilers, central heating systems and insulation. You must own or privately rent your home and receive a means-tested benefit to qualify.
How much is the heat pump grant?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides grants of up to £7,500 for air source heat pumps and £7,500 for ground source heat pumps. This is available across Wales to homeowners replacing fossil fuel heating. Your installer applies for the grant on your behalf.
Do I have to pay anything upfront?
For most grant-funded installations, you pay nothing upfront. The grant covers the full cost of the work. For heat pumps, the BUS grant covers up to £7,500 and you may need to contribute towards any remaining balance. Our team will explain all costs clearly before any work begins.
How long does the process take?
From your initial enquiry to completed installation typically takes 4 to 8 weeks. The eligibility check takes 60 seconds, the home survey is usually booked within 2 weeks, and installation is completed within 1 to 3 days depending on the product.
